Our Rescue-sponsored Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K9 Enzo graduated from the Jordan Detection K9 Program in June 2025 and immediately went to work with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois. Within weeks, K9 Enzo and his handler Detective Alexis Sciarrone assisted in major child exploitation investigations, helping uncover hidden devices that led to multiple arrests across the county.

In July, Enzo played a key role in an investigation that resulted in the arrest of a 23-year-old man in Zion. Detectives launched the case after receiving a tip from a cloud storage platform about uploads of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) from a device in Lake County. A search warrant was executed at a residence where K9 Enzo, along with K9 Grip from the Illinois State’s Attorney General’s Office, helped locate hidden electronic devices. Their work led to the discovery of multiple devices containing CSAM, many involving children under the age of 13. The suspect was charged with three counts of possession of child pornography, with additional charges pending.

That same month, Enzo assisted in the arrest of 22-year-old John C. Dressel of Mundelein after detectives discovered he was disseminating CSAM, including material depicting a disabled child under 13. Multiple cyber-tips from Snapchat, Discord, and Instagram flagged uploads from a device in Lake County. Detectives executed a search warrant where ESD K9 Enzo helped locate and seize key electronic devices containing explicit material. Dressel was charged with two counts of disseminating child pornography and seven counts of possession of child pornography.

Also in July, Enzo assisted in a case leading to the arrest of 59-year-old Randall R. Grueb of Lake Zurich, a real estate executive accused of downloading thousands of CSAM files. Investigators traced illicit activity to Grueb’s residence where Enzo and K9 Grip helped locate hidden electronic devices. A forensic analysis revealed thousands of images and videos—some involving toddlers—downloaded over several months. Authorities later identified Grueb as one of the state’s top 10 downloaders of CSAM between October and February. He was charged with ten counts of possession of child pornography, with additional distribution charges possible.

In September, Enzo and K9 Grip again assisted in a search that led to the arrest of 65-year-old Thomas Castillo of Waukegan. The investigation began when an email provider reported suspected CSAM sent from a Lake County device. Detectives traced the source to an apartment and executed a search warrant with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. Enzo’s work helped locate hidden electronics containing dozens of images and videos of CSAM, many involving children under 13. Castillo was charged with five counts of possession of child pornography, with additional charges possible.

Just this month in October, K9 Enzo assisted the Buffalo Grove Police Department during a search of the suspect’s property. Enzo indicated on a drawer, where investigators also discovered a manual for an outlet camera the offender had used to secretly record underage girls in his ice cream shop. While the manual itself was not an electronic device, its discovery provided crucial devices that helped link the suspect to the recordings. This find enabled detectives to understand how the offender had set up the camera and strengthened the overall case.
