Every day, children are sexually exploited by predators behind closed doors and evidence of that abuse is deliberately hidden. To fight these crimes, our four-legged heroes work alongside police to help rescue those children and bring them justice.

In 2022, Our Rescue-sponsored Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K9 Boone graduated from the Jordan Detection K9 training program and joined the Cook County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit with his handler, Sergeant Codd. Trained to locate small electronic devices that suspects often use to conceal child sexual abuse material (CSAM), K9 Boone supports investigations to help rescue children, fight human trafficking, and more.

In just the first four months of 2026, Boone has already assisted on 13 search warrants—each one tied to an active investigation. Two recent cases in Cook County show how that work directly leads to arrests. Because behind each case, there are real children in need of help.

In Streamwood, an investigation conducted by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a tip about a social media account uploading CSAM files. Investigators traced the account to a local residence. On January 6, they located a 22-year-old man named Omar Reyes and executed a search and arrest warrant. At his home, K9 Boone conducted a search and found devices that confirmed Reyes had sent and received child sexual abuse material through social media. Police immediately took him into custody and charged him.

In Cicero, investigators followed a similar process. NCMEC received another tip about a social media account that was tied to CSAM files.  Cook County investigators traced the account to a residence in Cicero and obtained a search warrant. On January 21, they executed that warrant and located Angel Davila Navarro inside the home. K9 Boone was again on scene to help with the search. Police confirmed Navarro’s phone number was connected to the account linked to the CSAM and charged him with possession and dissemination of the illicit material. He is now in police custody.

With child sexual exploitation happening every day, we must work harder than ever to support the men and women on the frontlines fighting to give kids their childhood back. This requires close coordination and partnership between reporting organizations, law enforcement, and communities.

You can help ensure that this work continues to reach more communities and more children every day. Your donation today helps Our Rescue continue this important work.
