This year, Our Rescue-sponsored Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K9 Bandit continued to make an extraordinary impact alongside his handler and law enforcement in Nevada and the Tahoe region. Bandit’s work has supported multiple investigations involving sexual crimes against children and major criminal activity, helping officers locate digital evidence that might otherwise remain hidden.

Across northern Nevada, several recent investigations led to significant arrests tied to crimes against children and drug trafficking. Behind the scenes in multiple operations was a four-legged investigator named Bandit.

  • A Reno-area In Reno, a woman was arrested on charges related to the distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) after authorities executed a search warrant tied to a cyber-tip investigation.
  • A large multi-agency operation in the Lake Tahoe area resulted in 26 arrests as law enforcement agencies worked together to disrupt trafficking activity.
  • A Sparks investigation resulted in a martial arts instructor being taken into custody following allegations of lewdness with a child under 14.

While headlines often focus on the suspects and the charges, they rarely capture the quiet work that happens during a search. That’s where Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K9 Bandit and his partner come in.

His Best Find Yet

Among Bandit’s recent deployments, one search warrant stood out as a huge success. While assisting investigators, Bandit located an SD card hidden deep inside a box filled with DVDs and video games. The device was extremely well concealed, yet Bandit alerted with precision—demonstrating both his rigorous training and his reliability in the field.

This find played a vital role in the ongoing investigation, and we couldn’t be more proud of Bandit’s unwavering focus and the exceptional partnership he has formed with his handler.

In cases involving digital exploitation, critical evidence is often small enough to fit in the palm of a hand. It can be tucked into bookshelves, clothing pockets, children’s toys, or, as Bandit proved, buried among everyday household items. Finding it requires patience, training, and sometimes a powerful nose.

For law enforcement, these arrests represent months of investigative work, coordination between agencies, and an unwavering commitment to protecting children and communities.

For his handler and the teams Bandit supports, that SD card wasn’t just a successful find. It was a reminder of why the work matters and why even the smallest piece of evidence can make a significant difference.
