In Chile, a nine-year-old girl was identified in child sexual abuse material (CSAM) files during a police investigation, setting in motion a coordinated police response in Santiago’s Metropolitan Region to rescue her.
On November 2025, the Chilean Investigative Police (PDI) launched Operation Hope with coordinated support from the Our Rescue team in Latin America, actively providing technical assistance, logistical support for PDI agents as they carried out time-sensitive investigative work.
The case originated from residual information tied to a separate investigation involving a man already incarcerated and known to have an extensive criminal history related to child sexual abuse. During that earlier investigation, authorities conducted a digital forensic analysis on the suspect’s mobile device. Investigators recovered the material that became the critical lead in identifying the 9-year-old girl and tracing her location.
As the investigation progressed, authorities determined that the mother had allegedly acted under threats of death made by the incarcerated suspect. Investigators reported that the suspect initially contacted the mother with a false job offer. Over time, those communications escalated into explicit threats against both her life and her daughter’s life.
Based on the evidence gathered, the Prosecutor’s Office determined that the threats created a serious and immediate risk to both individuals.
Today, the 9-year-old girl is safe and no longer facing sexual abuse or exploitation. Today, she can begin her healing journey. Our Rescue’s team in Latin America is committed to providing sustained, practical support to local authorities and survivors, helping ensure that children are protected, investigations move forward, and perpetrators are held accountable.
