In November of 2024, Our Rescue proudly collaborated with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ghana Police Service to support a crucial rescue operation.
The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit initiated the operation, following an investigation that found children had been trafficked from Nigeria into Ghana and then forced into illicit cyber activities. Acting swiftly, the Ghana Police Service sought the support of Our Rescue to overcome resource constraints and execute the rescue mission.
The survivors revealed they were deceived into traveling from Nigeria to Ghana with promises of legitimate job opportunities. Upon arrival in the country, they were confined in a house, starved, beaten, and coerced into participating in fraudulent online activities. When they resisted, they faced physical abuse and solitary confinement for days.
With Our Rescue’s support, the Ghana Police launched a rescue and arrest operation. This led to the successful recovery of 19 survivors and the apprehension of the suspect responsible for their exploitation. The survivors—eight of whom were minors—received medical care supported by Our Rescue.
In partnership with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Nigeria, Our Rescue helped coordinate the repatriation of 18 survivors to their home country. NAPTIP personnel met survivors at the Nigeria border to ensure their safe return and reintegration. The remaining survivor stayed in Ghana and Our Rescue provided trauma-informed support. The survivor also played an active role in assisting authorities with the investigation and legal proceedings, contributing to the pursuit of justice for themselves and others affected.
Our Rescue is proud to support our law enforcement partners and boost their capacities to clamp down on trafficking and the exploitation of minors.
Together, we can dismantle trafficking networks and empower survivors to reclaim their lives.
