K9 Trace, an Our Rescue-sponsored Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) dog, has already supported law enforcement in over 30 searches since joining the Thunder Bay Police Service in January 2024. In his short two years of service, Trace has helped officers uncover devices in critical cases, including three recent child exploitation investigations that led to multiple arrests.
On February 27, officers executed a search warrant at a residence and seized electronic devices. After reviewing the material, investigators determined the suspect had solicited nude images from a female child. Arjun Vimal Roy, 25, turned himself in on May 16 and now faces charges of luring a child, possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography, and distributing child pornography.
On April 22, investigators searched another residence after identifying a local internet user suspected of sharing child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Police seized multiple devices, and less than a month later, on May 16, Daniel Atkinson, 44, surrendered to police. Officers charged him with possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography, and distributing child pornography.
Additionally, on May 15, officers arrested Damiyen Malo, 20, after receiving reports of an adult male interacting with a female minor on social media. Investigators say Malo solicited and sent nude images. Officers charged him with luring a child, possession of child pornography, and making sexually explicit material available to a child.
At Our Rescue, we’re proud to sponsor ESD K9s all over the country. Together, side-by-side with law enforcement and community partners, we are making it harder for predators to hide, and safer for children to grow up free from exploitation.
