January is recognized as Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time to strengthen awareness, expand education, and encourage collective action to address human trafficking before it occurs. This month, Our Rescue is joining the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Blue Campaign as an official partner, aligning efforts to support prevention-focused, survivor-informed responses across communities.

The Blue Campaign is a national public awareness initiative designed to combat human trafficking through education, targeted training, and collaboration with law enforcement, industry, and community partners. By partnering with the Blue Campaign, Our Rescue is supporting a shared commitment to prevention and protection, ensuring communities are better equipped to recognize trafficking and respond appropriately.

About the Blue Campaign

By definition, human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to exploit individuals for labor or commercial sex. It can take many forms, including sex trafficking, forced labor, and domestic servitude, and it occurs in communities across the United States and around the world.

Blue Campaign works to address these realities through a comprehensive approach that includes:

  • Public education on what human trafficking is and how it presents
  • Training for key audiences, including law enforcement, industry, and the general public
  • Resources that support trauma-informed responses and prevention efforts

A Shared Focus on Prevention

As a partner, Our Rescue supports the Blue Campaign’s emphasis on stopping trafficking before it happens. This includes contributing expertise to educational efforts, supporting the distribution of training resources, and helping expand awareness among communities and stakeholders.

Throughout Human Trafficking Prevention Month, Blue Campaign hosts and supports events designed to engage partners and the public in meaningful prevention efforts. These initiatives reflect the importance of collaboration across sectors to address trafficking in a coordinated, informed way.

DHS Blue Campaign Joins Our Rescue Webinar on January 11

As part of this partnership, experts from DHS’s Blue Campaign will join Our Rescue on January 11 for a public education webinar, The Digital White Van.” The webinar will also feature voices from Know2Protect, Yahoo’s digital safety training, Our Rescue, and a survivor of sex trafficking.

The webinar focuses on how traffickers and predators use online spaces to reach, groom, and exploit children. Devices kids use every day, including smartphones, gaming consoles, tablets, and laptops, can give predators access points for manipulation and abuse. Understanding these risks helps parents, caregivers, and communities know how to take action.

Participants will learn how to recognize warning signs, set boundaries, and have informed conversations with children about online safety, leaving with practical tools to reduce risk in an increasingly connected world.

Join #WearBlueDay on January 11

One of the Blue Campaign’s largest initiatives during Human Trafficking Prevention Month is #WearBlueDay, taking place on January 11, also known as National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Partners, stakeholders, and members of the public are encouraged to wear blue, take a photo, and share it on social media to help raise awareness about human trafficking.

Our Rescue invites our community to participate by wearing blue and joining the conversation online using #WearBlueDay. Small actions can help amplify prevention-focused messages and encourage learning and engagement throughout communities.

As Human Trafficking Prevention Month continues, Our Rescue is grateful to work alongside partners like the DHS Blue Campaign to strengthen awareness, expand training, and support coordinated efforts that help protect individuals and communities.
