What is Survivor Care?

Supporting individuals who have experienced severe trauma often requires sustained effort and personalized support. Many survivors lack access to the resources they need to thrive. Our Rescue bridges that gap.

Before every mission operation, we ensure vetted survivor care services are in place through in-country organizations that help survivors.

“They [Our Rescue] fell from heaven because my kids start school tomorrow, and I wasn’t going to send them because I didn’t have money to buy them supplies.”

"For me, freedom began when others helped me see, and I started to truly believe that I have worth. That I am more than what has happened to me."

How We Empower Survivors

To help survivors build a thriving future, we offer support and services based on their specific needs.

Assessing Survivor's Needs
Our first priority is understanding each survivor’s unique circumstances. Through a trauma-informed, human-rights-based approach, we conduct a thorough assessment to identify both urgent and ongoing needs—such as safe housing, medical care, legal support, or educational opportunities. Survivors are encouraged to voice their goals and aspirations, ensuring the support we provide truly reflects their individual needs and empowers them from the start.
Planning Individualized Care
With each survivor’s input, we create a personalized service plan that promotes autonomy, resilience, and self-determination. Using a collaborative, problem-solving approach, we set clear goals and tap into local and global referral networks to connect survivors with the resources they need—whether that’s vocational training, counseling, or family reunification services. Every step honors the survivor’s voice and choice in their healing journey.
Supporting Community Reintegration
As survivors move forward, we help them build pathways back into their communities in a safe and sustainable way. Our staff work closely with shelters, NGOs, and government agencies to coordinate transitional support—covering education, employment, legal matters, and emotional wellbeing. By fostering strong partnerships and local capacity, we aim to ensure that survivors have long-term support and are fully equipped to rebuild their lives within the community.
Empowering Self-Sufficiency
Central to our mission is empowering survivors to thrive independently. We focus on enhancing their skills and confidence through workshops, mentorship, and by connecting them with opportunities for stable income or further education. Whether it’s through micro-grants, sponsorships, or training initiatives, our goal is to help survivors develop the resilience and autonomy needed to sustain their progress well beyond our direct care.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What local organization will help survivors of human trafficking?
Multiple organizations across the United States provide comprehensive assistance to human trafficking survivors. Our Rescue leads anti human trafficking efforts nationwide, working directly with law enforcement to combat human trafficking through rescue operations and survivor services. The National Human Trafficking Hotline (1-888-373-7888) connects trafficking victims with local service providers in their area who offer immediate assistance. Local human services departments, nonprofit organizations, and specialized anti-trafficking organizations provide victim services including emergency shelter, medical care, legal assistance, and long-term support for human trafficking survivors.

Many communities have established anti-human trafficking programs or task forces that coordinate between law enforcement, social services, and nonprofit organizations to identify potential victims and provide comprehensive care. These anti trafficking efforts focus on both sex trafficking and other forms of commercial sexual exploitation, working to ensure that trafficking survivors receive appropriate assistance based on available local resources and services.

However, not all communities have specialized anti-trafficking programs in place. In areas without dedicated programs, survivors can still access help through the National Human Trafficking Hotline (1-888-373-7888), which connects victims with available local service providers and resources. Organizations like Our Rescue work with vetted in-country partners and local organizations to ensure survivor care services are available, conducting thorough assessments to identify each survivor's unique needs and creating personalized service plans that promote autonomy and self-determination.

How do organizations identify suspected human trafficking cases?
Organizations train their staff to recognize signs of suspected human trafficking through comprehensive human trafficking awareness programs. Service providers learn to identify indicators of sexual exploitation, child trafficking, and other forms of trafficking. Law enforcement agencies work with anti trafficking organizations to investigate cases involving trafficking victims, including minor victims who may be experiencing child sex trafficking or commercial sexual exploitation.
What services do local organizations provide to trafficking survivors?
Local organizations provide comprehensive services to human trafficking survivors, addressing both immediate safety needs and long-term recovery goals. These services include emergency shelter, medical care, mental health counseling, legal assistance, and case management for survivors of sex trafficking, child trafficking, and other forms of sexual exploitation.

Human services agencies coordinate with anti trafficking organizations to provide specialized care for human trafficking survivors, including trauma-informed therapy and assistance navigating legal processes. Many organizations offer additional resources such as job training, education support, and housing assistance to help survivors rebuild their lives. The Trafficking Victims Protection Act ensures they receive federal benefits and protections, while local nonprofit organizations provide ongoing support and advocacy.

There are service providers that offer specialized programs for survivors who are minors, recognizing that child abuse and child sex trafficking require different approaches than adult cases. These comprehensive anti-trafficking efforts focus on empowering survivors rather than simply providing temporary assistance.

How can communities support local anti-trafficking organizations?
Communities can support local anti trafficking organizations through donations, volunteering, and raising human trafficking awareness in their neighborhoods. Organizations combating human trafficking need financial support to provide victim services, conduct rescue operations, and offer long-term assistance to human trafficking survivors.

Volunteers can help with administrative tasks, fundraising events, and community education programs that teach people to recognize signs of trafficking and sexual exploitation. Many anti trafficking organizations also need professional volunteers such as lawyers, therapists, and translators to provide specialized services to survivors.

At Our Rescue, we believe informed communities are the best line of defense against the dangers of sex trafficking and child exploitation. That’s why we offer resources to equip individuals with the tools to recognize the signs and identify the root causes of these growing issues so they can protect kids and raise awareness in the fight.
