In Romania, a criminal network was suspected of human trafficking, pimping, and a range of other serious offenses, harming countless individuals. The group is believed to have exploited vulnerable individuals while profiting from high-risk drug trafficking, money laundering, and more. Once the full scope of the network became clear, authorities, with support from Our Rescue, launched a coordinated, multi-agency effort designed to dismantle the organization and prevent them from exploiting more individuals.
Operation Trojan Horse was led by prosecutors from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism Crimes, with extensive support from specialized units across the country, bringing together expertise across multiple areas of law enforcement. Over two days in November, law enforcement detained 15 suspects and judicial control measures for 12 others.
During the coordinated raids, authorities seized large amounts of cash, weapons, drugs, and high-value assets connected to the group. These seizures are not only essential for the ongoing investigation but also reveal how the network operated and generated profit. Removing these resources disrupts the group’s financial infrastructure, preventing future exploitation.
The next phase of the case will see Romania’s courts review proposals for preventive arrest of the detained suspects.
