Within two days, Our Rescue personnel supported two major operations alongside the Romanian National Police, resulting in the dismantling of organized crime groups and the rescue of multiple survivors.
On September 30, authorities carried out a targeted action in Southern Romania. This operation led to 5 arrests and the rescue of 9 survivors, including 2 minors.
Just days later, on October 2, Romanian prosecutors and police launched a large-scale action across Bucharest, Giurgiu, and Ilfov counties. Backed by 46 search warrants, the operation dismantled a major organized crime group responsible for human trafficking, money laundering, pimping, and related offenses. This coordinated action resulted in 36 arrests and 10 survivors rescued.
Investigations revealed that the crime group was comprised of more than 30 members, who allegedly exploited women by transporting them to countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and the United Arab Emirates. There, the group facilitated commercial sexual exploitation through advertisements, travel arrangements, and housing. Authorities estimate the network profited over €3.5 million, which was laundered through luxury purchases, real estate, and businesses.
Additionally, evidence shows the group may have financed cosmetic procedures for women under their control, aiming to increase profits from exploitation. Alarmingly, one suspect within the group was a police officer accused of misusing official resources to protect the criminal network.
The survivors identified in both cases are now receiving care and support as legal proceedings continue.
We are grateful for the strength of international cooperation in the fight against human trafficking. Both Romanian actions took place as part of Operation Global Impact 2025 (OGI).
To date, OGI has resulted in:
- 112 suspects arrested
- 44 minors rescued
- 58 adults rescued
