In the summer of 2025, multiple complex investigations involving child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and hidden surveillance devices unfolded across Wisconsin. Each case involved diligent investigative work and interagency cooperation, including crucial support from Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K9 Maui working alongside local and federal partners.
Madison Rental Home Hidden Camera Investigation
In late July 2025, police in Madison, Wisconsin responded to a call from a guest who discovered hidden cameras in a short-term rental property, with one embedded in an electrical outlet and another in a shared bathroom. Six children were among the group staying in the home when the devices were found.
Officers obtained a search warrant and brought ESD K9 Maui on-scene to help them locate all electronics, storage media, and documents to determine who installed the surveillance equipment and whether footage was recorded.
Beloit Child Exploitation Materials Case
In Beloit, Wisconsin, police brought K9 Maui to help on a search warrant at the residence of a 52-year-old man who was suspected of possessing CSAM. The search led to the seizure of electronic devices, and the suspect was arrested and charged with five counts of possession of CSAM and five counts of sexual exploitation of a child through distribution.
Fort Atkinson Possession Charges
In Jefferson County, Wisconsin, K9 Maui accompanied investigators again to help execute another search warrant as part of an ongoing Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation. A 45-year-old man was arrested on ten counts of possession of CSAM, along with drug-related charges after police found methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
