A Local Business Joins the Fight Against Human Trafficking and Exploitation; Donates Percentage of Proceeds to Help Survivors

The fight against human trafficking is powered by more than organizations, investigations, and field operations. Every day, it is strengthened by ordinary people making extraordinary choices – people who decide to use their businesses, platforms, and communities to help create meaningful change.

Across the nation, supporters are finding creative ways to turn everyday moments into opportunities for impact. Some volunteer their time. Some raise awareness. Others build giving directly into the work they do every day, proving that even small acts of purpose can ripple outward in powerful ways.

For many brides, finding the perfect dress marks the beginning of one of life’s most unforgettable moments. It is a moment filled with hope, celebration, family, and anticipation for the future.

At The Dress Shop, that experience carries an added layer of purpose.

With every dress purchase, a portion of proceeds supports Our Rescue, giving brides and their families an opportunity to contribute to meaningful work while celebrating one of life’s biggest milestones. What begins as a joyful search for the perfect gown becomes part of something much larger – helping support efforts to combat human trafficking and to assist survivors on their path toward healing.

For owner Jessica Brooks and her team, giving back is not a marketing campaign or seasonal initiative. It is woven into the heart of how they do business.

“At the heart of our salon is a simple philosophy: everyone who walks through our doors should leave feeling better than when they arrived,” The Dress Shop owner Jessica Brooks shared. “Every interaction is an opportunity to uplift, support, and create a genuinely positive experience.”

That commitment to making people feel seen, valued, and cared for eventually grew beyond the walls of the salon itself.

In 2023, Brooks attended an event benefiting Our Rescue and learned more about the realities of human trafficking as well as the critical importance of survivor support and prevention efforts. What she heard stayed with her long after the event ended.

Once I learned about Our Rescue, I had a burning desire to get involved, to make a difference, and to help in some way… I realized that The Dress Shop was the perfect vehicle to give back.

Jessica Brooks, Owner of The Dress Shop

Behind the statistics were real people. Real stories. Real lives forever changed by exploitation and abuse. And like many who first learn about trafficking, Brooks realized that awareness alone was not enough. She wanted to do something tangible – something lasting.

So, she looked at the business she had built and asked a simple but powerful question: What if every celebration could also become an opportunity to help someone in need?

That question transformed into action.

Today, guests receive information about Our Rescue’s Mission prior to appointments. People arrive with questions and conversations organically unfold about the mission. Signage inside the bridal salon invites customers to learn more about the impact their purchase can have on the fight against human trafficking and child exploitation.

Today, every bride who says “yes” to a dress at The Dress Shop becomes part of a broader mission of hope and healing, and of providing the necessary tools and resources to those who fight human trafficking and child exploitation on the frontlines of communities at home and abroad. In a world where trafficking can often feel like an overwhelming, distant issue, Brooks believes meaningful impact starts locally – with businesses willing to step forward and communities that are willing to care.

Her team has embraced the mission wholeheartedly.

“We spent a lot of time learning about Our Rescue, including rescue missions, meeting with team members in person, and celebrating the wins happening around the world,” Brooks explained. “It is amazing to see how engaged our staff is and how proud they are of what we are doing.”

Her decision reflects something deeply important: fighting trafficking and exploitation is not reserved only for law enforcement. It requires people who are willing to use whatever influence they have, whatever resources they can spare – large or small – to help protect those who are vulnerable and to support survivors.

The Dress Shop has seen firsthand how awareness can create a sense of connection. One moment continues to stand out for Brooks. During a dress fitting, after learning about the shop’s partnership with Our Rescue, a mother of a bride shared that she had personally received support from Our Rescue.

For the brides walking through the salon doors, the experience remains joyful and personal. And now, threaded into every fitting appointment and every celebration is the knowledge that their special moment is also helping to create hope for someone else.

“In the salon, our goal is always to create a joyful, uplifting experience, so we frame our giving in terms of the difference it makes, supporting survivors, protecting women and children, and being part of meaningful change,” Brooks shared.

Every dress purchase becomes part of a larger story. A celebration becomes an opportunity to give back. And for one bridal salon, helping brides feel confident and supported now reaches far beyond the walls of the fitting room.

Supporting Our Rescue has elevated our business by giving deeper meaning to what we do every day. We are creating an experience that contributes to something bigger than ourselves.

And perhaps that is where real change begins. When compassion becomes action, and when moments like these are transformed into opportunities to make a difference.

Change happens when everyday people choose to act. Whether you own a business, volunteer your time, raise awareness, or support the mission in your own way, your role matters. Join the Fight as you are and become part of a community creating meaningful change together.
