Sextortion is one of the fastest-growing online threats facing teens today.

Sextortion can take different forms, but all involve coercion through the threat of releasing private or explicit material. Traditional sextortion occurs when an offender obtains sexually explicit images or videos of a person and then demands additional material or sexual favors under threat of exposure. Financial sextortion differs in that offenders demand money, gift cards, or other forms of payment.

In this short animated film, youโ€™ll meet Jess, Juan, Alice,ย  Emily, and the shadowy figure behind it all. Their stories reveal how predators manipulate trust, demand money, or use technology to trap teens in fear and silence. ย

In January of 2024, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a warning about the global financial sextortion crisis.

Sextortion is a form of blackmail that involves threatening to distribute private, sensitive, or compromising images or videos of an individual unless they provide more images, money, sexual favors, or other forms of compensation. This threat is on the rise, targeting children and using the internet to gain access inside homes.
