In Thailand, a woman allegedly began trafficking a 13-year-old on her first day of work at a karaoke bar. For six days, the minor was reportedly exploited to provide business clients with the specific sexual services they desired.
OUR Rescue operators became suspicious of criminal activity at the bar and assisted authorities in identifying persons of interest, and obtaining specific evidence as requested by partnered law enforcement. This work confirmed that crimes were being committed by the bar owner and found two minor employees: the 13-year-old and a 14-year-old.
We then collected additional evidence for local authorities. OUR Asia’s team found a “service fee” of 3,000 Thai Baht, or about $81.38, was charged to engage in sexual services with the 13-year-old. Another 400 Thai Baht was required to pay the owner.
This evidence was presented to the Anti-Trafficking in Person’s Division (ATPD) of Thailand’s Royal Police, which prompted a sting operation. Since being rescued, one of the survivors is receiving care and support at a government shelter.
It is currently unknown if the other minor found at the bar was also trafficked. Local law enforcement continues to work on the case. At their request, OUR Rescue is providing all the help that we can.
