Thanks to funding from OUR Rescue donors, five Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K9s graduated from training on June 28.

Jordan Detection K9, a trusted partner of OUR, conducted the rigorous training. The dogs – Bear, Chase, Geo, Maui, and Umber – learned to detect and find electronic devices that predators often use to store child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Now, these five ESD K9s will use their skills to help law enforcement find electronic devices like SD cards, external hard drives, and tablets during search warrants. Specifically, the dogs are trained to detect a chemical scent that is found in the devices.

Because these devices can be incredibly small, authorities often have a hard time locating all of them. After they complete an initial search, ESD K9s then do a search of their own, helping to find key evidence that otherwise might not have been found.

The June ESD K9 graduates have been placed across the United States to support law enforcement officials in need.

  • Bear – Madison City Police Department (Alabama)
  • Chase – Pasco Sheriff’s Office (Florida)
  • Geo – Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office (Wisconsin)
  • Maui – Janesville Police Department (Wisconsin)
  • Umber – Collin County Sheriff’s Office (Texas)

As with all ESD K9s, the dogs were strategically placed and trained with handlers they will work best with based on the personality traits of both.
