This time of year, most kids are enjoying fun days with friends and family. But for an eight-year-old girl in Lima, Peru, the month of June included being tested for HIV, after she survived the horrors of sexual abuse and having it recorded and distributed on the internet as child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

In May 2025, Our Rescue was requested by the Peruvian National Police and the Peruvian Public Ministry to participate in a law enforcement operation in the Lima and Callao Regions to effect the arrest of the alleged suspect accused of the production and distribution of CSAM material on social media.

The Peruvian National Police’s Division of Cyber Crimes identified the subject and his address through investigative work supported by Our Rescue.

Following the perpetrator’s arrest, Our Rescue personnel participated in the rescue of the 8-year-old child.

Upon speaking with the young survivor and her mother, our team learned that the mother was leaving her daughter in the custody and care of her sister while she worked. However, during this time, her sister’s husband began to sexually abuse and film the 8-year-old girl.
Neither the mother nor her sister was aware of the abuse.

At the time of rescue, medical professionals determined that the young girl was severely malnourished and removed her from the situation.

Our Rescue’s team was highly concerned with the young girl’s state of poor nutrition and purchased food and clothing for the girl. The concern was well-founded: in addition to her emotional health being poor, her physical health was also in bad shape.

Furthermore, Peruvian authorities believed there was a possibility that the HIV positive perpetrator may have infected the young girl, as she was visibly malnourished. Our Rescue’s Survivor Care team has ensured that the girl is being treated by professionals for her physical and emotional needs, including following up with any testing and care that is necessary. Additionally, Our Rescue is ensuring the survivor has new clothing for Peru’s winter weather.
