The Utah Navajo Health System (UNHS), a community-focused, not-for-profit health organization, has long been a vital resource for the Navajo Nation. Its mission to provide accessible healthcare, education, and outreach services aligns with OUR Rescue’s goal of eradicating sexual exploitation and empowering communities. Together, we are raising awareness about the threats of sex trafficking and child exploitation —while also emphasizing the cultural richness and strength within the Navajo Nation.

While all communities are susceptible to human trafficking and exploitation, data often shows that indigenous populations suffer disproportionately from violence – sexual, domestic, homicide, sex trafficking, stalking – compared to other racial and ethnic groups. This problem cannot be ignored.

Despite challenges, the Navajo people remain strong, rooted in their culture, and fully capable of leading the fight against sexual exploitation in their communities.

OUR Rescue’s goal with this collaboration is to amplify education and prevention efforts, building on the resilience of Indigenous communities to protect their families from traffickers and exploiters. By equipping individuals with knowledge and resources, OUR Rescue and UNHS aim to create safer environments where Navajo people can continue to thrive.

Thomasina Holly, Sexual Assault Response Coordinator for UNHS, wants the collaboration to help ignite important conversations and raise awareness that the realities of sexual exploitation may be very present in their communities. She wants to equip those she serves with online safety tools, talking points, and the signs of what to look for.

“It’s important,” she says. “And we are learning too!”

OUR Rescue is proud to partner with the Utah Navajo Health System as part of a larger commitment to standing with Indigenous communities in the fight against sex trafficking and child exploitation. Together, we are laying the foundation for a future where every individual can live free from these crimes.
