MINNEAPOLIS (March, 12) – Our Rescue, a global non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to combating sex trafficking and child exploitation, just completed a successful mission with Thailand’s Internet Crimes Against Children (TICAC) Task Force to arrest a familial predator and remove a six-year-old girl who was being sexually abused by a family member in her home.
The offender, who threatened physical harm to keep her from talking about the abuse, was arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a minor and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
The TICAC Task Force requested Our Rescue’s on-site support for the investigation, which included conducting field observations and providing survivor care. Our Rescue’s Electronic Storage Detection (ESD) K9s also searched the location for devices containing CSAM.
Our Rescue’s Thailand operations team partnered with authorities for three days to identify and locate the perpetrator and the six-year-old survivor. After the arrest, the Provincial Shelter for Children and Families determined the child could return home under her aunt’s care.
Our Rescue’s Survivor Care specialists continue to provide trauma-informed support for the girl as she heals in the custody of this trusted family member, including helping the child talk about her experiences and current needs in an age-appropriate way, and providing follow-up visits and legal assistance.
“Every child we help rescue and every predator we help lock up is one step closer to creating a safer world for kids,” said Tammy Lee, CEO of Our Rescue. “This case highlights the need for rapid intervention in live abuse cases and is a textbook example of our partnerships with law enforcement to combat child sex abuse and exploitation. From identifying, investigating and arresting sex predators to rescuing child survivors and getting them to safety, our work continues. We stay on the pathway to healing with survivors until they can reclaim their lives. Our mission will not be complete until every child is safe from harm.”
