Overcoming the Red-Light Zone with Light and Hope

Overcoming the Red-Light Zone with Light and Hope

There is a road in Latin America lined with shacks as far as the eye can see. Girls as young as fourteen and women as old as sixty-five roam this road every day because it is all they know. It is one of the most dangerous Red-Light Zones in the world.

O.U.R. works with a group that does rescue and outreach in this zone, and that is how we met Allie. Allie grew up with her mom being sexually exploited. She would pray every day that her mom would be taken out of it.

After praying every day for ten years, she finally was liberated. And that changed Allie’s life.

The group that we work with to do outreach in this area invites people to a three-month program to learn business skills. At the end of the program, the graduates are offered a micro-finance gift to start their own business. Allie was around fifteen years old when her mom started to participate in this.

At first, she wanted to be a lawyer because she saw so much injustice growing up near the Red-Light Zone. However, when her mom was finally liberated after ten years of being exploited, Allie changed her mind. She decided that she wanted to be a Christian singer to praise God for the rest of her life. She prayed every day for those ten years for her mom to be liberated, and she felt her prayers were answered. Currently Allie runs a micro ministry of her own reaching out to youth in her local neighborhood as she felt God was calling her to do more with her life.

We recognize that not all stories end like this, and there are still a lot of people in captivity. That is why we fight. That is why we continue to spread awareness, rescue children, provide support to law enforcement, and support aftercare. Supporting Allie brings hope and light to an otherwise dark world, and we are hopeful that she will be able to influence others to fight this issue as well.

O.U.R. has been able to support thirty of these survivors in the twelve-week business program because of your generous donations. However, this reach is far beyond even just these thirty girls. Because of these opportunities, Allie and the many other children’s lives are forever impacted as they learn to use their talents and skills to make a positive impact on the world.
