Here is your weekly roundup of human trafficking stories in the news. We hope to highlight the good work that U.S. law enforcement and citizens are doing to fight human trafficking across the country.
A man in Indiana was arrested on counts of child sex trafficking and rape. He contacted a 14-year-old girl who had run away from home and trafficked her for sex and sold child exploitative material of her online.
“The amount of child pornography and children that are being victimized in our society is devastatingly high,” said Detective Brad Guith. The Fontana PD’s Internet Crimes Against Children unit is dedicated to finding the perpetrators and arresting them for their crimes.
A man was arrested for having over 1,000 images of child exploitation on his computer in Ohio. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations and the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (“ICAC”) Task Force are heading the investigation.
We also need to pay particular attention to our children who are out of school and are talking online through social media,” Detective Scaramucci said. “Children have more screen time now, and human traffickers will likely start attempting to groom and exploit those who are most vulnerable.”
