The Freedom Truck is a “cause on wheels” in Minnesota known for their delicious falafel and for spreading awareness about human trafficking.
Since it launched just over a year ago, the Freedom Truck has raised an average of $5,000 each month. The Stories Foundation redistributes all of the profit made to community groups taking action to fight human trafficking
In 2015, federal officials listed Minnesota as having the third-highest number of adults and children forced into sex or labor.
Stephanie Page, Executive Director of the Stories Foundation, said, “People are normally shocked. Shocked. And I was too. I thought slavery was over with Abraham Lincoln. I didn’t think it was still happening, but it is happening here in Minnesota.”
The Freedom Truck’s goal is to make it easy for people to take the first steps to helping, “to fill in the gap between individual and nonprofit, to experience real community as we work toward change together.”
Page and her team are working towards opening a cafe, where they can give human trafficking survivors jobs to help them rebuild their lives. The cafe would also create greater opportunities for awareness through volunteering and purposeful purchasing.
